Professor Donica Belisle, September 2022

Welcome

I am a writer and historian at the University of Regina. Currently I am researching the global history of sugar. In 2026 my book about Canadian sugar plantations in Fiji will be published.

I am the author of two award winning books, on one Canadian department stores especially Eaton’s, and the other on Canadian consumer culture. I have also written several award winning articles on women and gender.

At the University of Regina I teach North American history, focusing on the Canadian era. I also teach the histories of women, gender, labour, and British imperialism.

I contribute often to the media and the profession, serving on grant panels, prize committees, and editorial boards. Since 2005, the Humanities and Social Sciences Council of Canada has supported my research. I have 30 years of success in securing both public and private funding.
